Boron carbide is a black crystal with a metallic luster. Its hardness is second only to diamond and higher than that of silicon carbide, with a Mohs hardness of 9.3. It has stable chemical properties and does not react with acid or alkali solutions. Its molecular formula is B4C, with a relative density of 2.52, a melting point of 2350℃, and a boiling point above 3500℃. Molten boron carbide can dissolve a large amount of graphite carbon.
