It is widely used in circulating water treatment agents, anti-rust oils, and lipid products, and is also applied as a vapor phase corrosion inhibitor and lubricating oil additive for copper and copper alloys. Benzotriazole (BTA) forms covalent and coordination bonds with copper atoms, substituting each other to form a chain polymer. It has the same effect on metal materials such as lead, cast iron, nickel and zinc. BTA can be combined with various corrosion inhibitors to enhance the corrosion inhibition effect. It can also be used in combination with various scale inhibitors, bactericides and algaecides, especially having an excellent corrosion inhibition effect on closed circulating cooling water systems. Adding BTA to automotive antifreeze ethylene glycol, water and coatings can all volatilize the protective material's function. BTA is an excellent ultraviolet absorber and can stabilize products sensitive to ultraviolet light, such as preventing diazo dyes from fading. Treating thin sheet products like paper, woven fabrics, films, and metal coins with BTA can prevent discoloration. During the mechanical processing, adding BTA to grinding oil and cutting oil can prevent the processed copper parts from discoloring. This product can also be used as an analytical reagent. When combined with ammonia water and diaminetetraacetic acid, it can be used for the selective determination of silver, copper and zinc. It can also be used as a photography anti-fogging agent and an intermediate in organic synthesis.
